*sigh* anyone else having trouble motivating? Don’t worry, the above is not the forecast for Marathon Monday. But if you’re planning your final weekend run, it’s not what you wanted to see in Boston. Real feel of 23 and chance of snow!? yuck.
Should we look for a silver lining? Okay here we go. I had a coach once that said you should embrace every single type of weather when you train for the Boston Marathon because you never know what you’re going to get. That way, when you’re standing on the start line you can say to yourself, “I’ve run in this. I can handle it. I’ve got this.”
Good luck to all of you on your final weekend of preparations. Here’s hoping you’re someplace warmer.
If you haven’t downloaded our app yet, we’d love for you to give it a try! It’s $2.99 (one-time) — and you’ll be able to simulate both the predicted weather and also any other forecast you like. Below is the current reading for Marathon Monday.
So above is the current race day prediction. It’s not the best. But if you’re thinking 2018, don’t. It’s not that bad.
Tailwind Tracker
Will there be a tailwind? No — looks like a cross/headwind
Temperature at Start: 44°F (7°C)
Temperature at Finish: 44°F (7°C)
Wind: NNE at 10 mph (10 km/h)
Precipitation Chance: 35%
Conditions: Rainy
Humidity: 96%
Race Day Impact:
Similar years at Boston have yielded times that are on average 3-5 minutes slower than the average. Conditions are cooler and damp, with light NNE winds and high humidity. While the wind direction won’t provide a helpful tailwind, it’s also not strong enough to significantly slow you down. Expect a mostly neutral impact from the wind. However, the 96% humidity and light rain could make things feel a bit heavier, especially later in the race. Stay relaxed early, stay dry if you can, and don’t let the weather psych you out — overall, this is still a pretty runnable day.
2019: Weather Forecast
No write-up today. Just have a look at this rainy day forecast from 2019. It’s about as scary as it gets. But guess what? They still ran 2:07 for the win. It’s all about how you manage things.
